Our Bicentennial Celebration starts with an official commenoration of the war of 1812 !
Come celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812 with us! The Gananoque Bicentennial Committee will unveil the park on the anniversary day that war was declared on Canada -June 18th, 2012 at 11 a.m. This will be the official commemoration kick-off date for the whole province with the Joel Stone 1812 Heritage Park unveiling being the major event in Eastern Ontario. The Arthur Child Heritage Museum will feature Gananoque’s history: ”The Way We Were: 1790 – 1840”, covering the founding of the Town and the Joel Stone exhibit.In addition there will be a number of activities and events planned during a bicentennial celebration on the August 25 & 26th, 2012 weekend

The Town of Gananoque invites you to experience some of the most intriguing and charming heritage sites in eastern Ontario.
Gananoque Town Hall Built in 1831 for the McDonald Family.
Victoria Rose This 1872 landmark was the home of the first mayor of Gananoque, William Byers.
Arthur Child Museum The museum occupies the former site of the Thousand Island Railway Station serving one of Canada’s shortest railway lines. The museum today takes you back to the 1000 Islands history.
In 2012, the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, the Museum will showcase the period from 1790 – 1840 with a focus on the founding and development of the Town by Joel Stone and the Raid on Gananoque, September 21, 1812. Experience interactive exhibits, see the Blockhouse and discover 10,000 years of 1000 Islands history.
Gananoque Inn & Spa in 1860, the Gananoque Carriage Works occupied this property until it was bought out.
Athlone Inn Built in 1877 for Charles Leopold Parmenter, co-founder of Parmenter and Bulloch Rivet factory.
The Godfrey House Inn - 199 Pine StreetThe Godfrey House is a stunning late Victorian mansion on the corner of Pine and Charles Streets in Gananoque, Ontario. The exterior is red brick with a white Queen Anne wrap-around veranda. The interior boasts both Victorian and Art Nouveau stained glass and Belgium crystal chandeliers. In its’ first 115 years, the mansion has been home to William Victor Bulloch and family, Dora and Earl Godfrey and family, and the Kroeg family.
St. John Evangelist Roman Catholic Church - 270 Stone St.Built in 1880 architect - Joseph Connolly.A fine example of a Romanesque church built from local materials. the details, both inisde and out, reflect the Irish heritage of the parish. Highlights include a magnificent copy of Raphael's " The Disputation of the Eucharist" in the apse as well as a stunning carrara marble altar and beautiful stained glass window.The original is in the Borgia Apartment, next door to the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. A major renovation and restoration work was completed in 2010/2011
Gananoque Spring and Axle Company - Axle Works - 21 King St. AxleWorks is a cultural experience and unique destination in Eastern Ontario. The design is based on thoughtful contradictions and is an intriguing blend of new and old. The building was head office to Gananoque Spring and Axle; originally a manufacturer of parts for horse drawn carriages, GS&A became a major supplier for GM Canada in the early 20th century. The current owners purchased the property in May 2009 and undertook the extensive renovations that gave the building its current form. AxleWorks re-opened its doors in June of 2010 with a redesign that incorporates the building’s manufacturing past by using combinations of wood, steel, and copper salvaged from the property. The raw interior is accented with unique art creations and warm colours. Today, the original character and architectural features of the building have been preserved, and it serves as a vivid reminder of the town’s industrial heritage.
Event information: Visitors are invited to explore a popular clothing store, slow smoke barbecue restaurant,neighbourhood-friendly coffeehouse, and the on-site galleries of AxleWorks.
St. Andrew's Presbyterian - Gananoques’ Presbyterians started organized worship services in 1837 in small frame buildings, first at the corner of King & Church Streets later at the corner of Stone & Pine.
Christ Church- 30 Chruch St. Rev. John Carroll, Anglican missionary for Leeds County and a student of architecture, drew the plans for Christ Church. The cornerstone was laid in 1857 and services began in 1858. The interior of this beautiful stone church has been lovingly maintained and showcases magnificent stained glass windows, stenciled walls, wooden pews and trim and a Cassavante pipe organ.
Gananoque Trails Open - New !Guided Tours are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday / Explore the natural beauty that surrounds the Town of Gananoque. The Gananoque Trail System is made up of a 12 km perimeter hike that may be divided into three returns to Trailhead loops.
