Garbage, Recycling and Landfill

Electronic Waste Recycling Program

Electronic waste represents the fastest growing waste stream worldwide. Each year Canadian landfills accumulate more than 140,000 tonnes of e-waste containing hazardous compounds of mercury, lead and cadmium. As responsible environmental stewards, the Town of Gananoque introduced an Electronic Waste Recycling Program in January 2011. Residents are now encouraged to drop off their E-waste at the Public Works Yard located at 665 Charles Street North (next to the water tower). A large, green, walk-in container will be open from 8am till 3pm Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays. The Town is proud to offer this service at no charge so please refer to the attached list [PDF] of accepted electronic materials and help divert potentially dangerous materials from Ontario landfills.
