DEVELOPMENT CHARGES BACKGROUND STUDY RELEASED

Following a Notice of Motion initially passed by Council in 2019 to establish development fees, Watson & Associates Ltd., have presented the Town with a Development Charges Background Study. Development Charges address growth related costs. The Development Charges Act permits municipalities to recover all or a portion of the costs for new infrastructure from developers or builders. The Act further defines and sets limits of what can be recovered and what those services are. The intent is to ensure that all new development in Gananoque pays for their share of additional costs that the Town could incur. The Town does not currently have development charges in place.

Council was presented with the findings of the Background Study, at their meeting of October 20, 2020, at which time a motion was passed to move forward with the public process. The Background Study will be available for the public to comment on for a minimum of 60 days prior to consideration. A public meeting will also be scheduled for February 16, 2021 prior to Council considering the adoption of a Development Charges Bylaw. Statutory Notice of Public Meeting will follow at a later date.
