Town of Gananoque and Township of Leeds & the Thousand Islands Welcomes You To Another Year of Grow With Us!

Public Notices

GANANOQUE, ON - The Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands are bringing you "Grow With Us" for another year. Residents in TLTI and Gananoque will receive a colourful labelled envelope in their mailbox. This project is funded by the Rural Economic Development Program administered by Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Inside these envelopes, residents will find three sunflower seeds that were once again graciously donated by local businesses Wendy's Country Market and Corn Acres Farm. Instructions on how to plant these seeds are found on the front of the seed envelopes.

If planting is not your thing, that's okay! Save the seeds for a family member, friend or even a small critter or bird.

The Town and Township would love to see the progress of your seeds, so once you have them planted, make sure to post the growth of your sunflowers on social media and tag @travel1000islands or @leeds1000islands and use the hashtag #sunflowers1000islands. Please give a shout out and tag @WendysCountryMarket and @cornacrefarms for their continued support in our Grow With Us campaign!

"I can remember receiving these sunflower seeds in my mailbox in 2020 and thought this was such a fantastic idea as we were all going through COVID-19 together and being socially distanced from others," said RED Project Coordinator, McKenna Modler. "I love that I get to roll out this initiative for 2021 and I hope it will once again spread some happiness and joy to others!"

The past year has been tough for all of us but remember, we are all in this together! Keep checking up, virtually, on friends, family and neighbours to support one another and to stay positive.
