UPDATE: Water Street Swing Bridge is now OPEN for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Thank you for your patience while we resolved this matter.
This morning (June 22nd, 2020), the Public Works Roads Division attempted to exercise the Water Street Swing Bridge. Due to the extreme heat and humidity over the past few days, the bridge has been lodged into a position where it will not open or fully close. The bridge will be closed down indefinitely in order to have some cool weather overnight in order for us to operate the bridge. It is the Town’s intention to have the bridge operational by the end of the week, weather permitting. The bridge will be closed to both pedestrian and road traffic until such time the swelling of the bridge deck and abutments decreases due to the heat.
