Annual Community Recognition Event

Town News

The Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands hosted their annual Community Recognition Event in Town Park on Friday, September 13, 2019. Community Grant recipients from both municipalities attended a dinner in the park.

Deputy Mayor Dave Osmond of the Town of Gananoque and Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke of the Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands were both in attendance to accept a cheque from OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager Tyjondah Kerr. Dale Deane, General Manager of Shorelines Casinos Thousand Islands also attended.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) plays an important role in both communities and this event allows the municipalities to celebrate their community grant program award recipients. The Community Grants are funded from gaming site proceeds for both municipalities. Some recent grant recipients from both the Town and Township include: The Gananoque Canoe Club, The Gananoque Curling Club, 1000 Islands History Museum, Art Bomb, Municipal Drug Strategy, Lansdowne Association for Revitalization (LAFR), Lansdowne Agricultural Society, TLTI Lansdowne Pickleball Club, Rockport Recreation Hall, Frontenac Arch Biosphere Foundation and Gananoque Minor Hockey Association.

“OLG is proud of the role we play in strengthening the Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and each of our host communities,” said Tyjondah Kerr, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager, “Each and every year 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. Since the opening of the gaming site in 2002, OLG has provided more than $56 million in hosting funds. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work in the Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands and all across our province. We also appreciate the contribution of gaming site employees in making life in the Town of Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands that much richer.”

The Community Grants program has four intake deadlines annually in the Town of Gananoque and two intake deadlines in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the respective municipal office or website.
