The Town of Gananoque’s Economic Development Department was recognized at the The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) 51st Annual Conference in Edmonton, AB on September 24, 2019, where the recipients of the 2019 Marketing Canada Awards were announced.
The Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) is Canada’s national association of economic development professionals, representing every province and territory across Canada. The Association recognizes that marketing a community is an integral part of the economic development profession, therefore provides the Marketing Canada Awards competition as an opportunity to exchange and review promotional and marketing material produced by municipalities from coast to coast.
The Economic Development Department was awarded a Marketing Canada Award for best Social Media/App for their Gan Business App - Storefront Vacancy Augmented Reality (AR) project. The project was created to showcase vacant storefronts in a way that had never been done before. Users are able to select one of six 3D rendered floorplans, providing a unique visual experience designed to ignite an entrepreneurial mindset, associate vacant storefronts with new business ideas and increase traffic to vacant storefronts.
“I, along with Council, am extremely proud of the Economic Development staff on receiving this national recognition. The team continues to push the envelope and think outside of the box with new and creative initiatives that keep Gananoque on the leading edge and at the forefront of development,” said Town of Gananoque CAO, Shellee Fournier.
