Annuals in the Park provide long lasting colour throughout the summer.
In September, zinnias are the stars of the show in the Pollinator Garden. ‘Benary’s Giant’ zinnias are tall, with large, richly coloured flowers, and are very attractive to butterflies and other insects. Butterflies flit from one flower to another. Amongst the zinnias are cleome, known as Spider Flower, which seed wildly, producing millions of seedlings. Cleome grow 1-2 metres tall, and have large loose balls of flowers in shades of purple, pink and white.
Cosmos are another type of annual that self-seeds in the Pollinator Garden. The single flowers attract butterflies and are borne on top of stems with fine feathery foliage. Finally, ‘Bali Gold’ marigolds light up the entrance to the Park from the north side. Their full, gold flowers keep appearing from May through October.
