Acceptable Green & Blue Box Recyclable Items

The Town’s Garbage and Recycling Schedule is as follows: 

  • East of Stone Street (Including East side of Stone Street) – Recycling pickup is Monday and Garbage pickup is Tuesday.
  • West of Stone Street (Including West side of Stone Street) – Recycling pickup is Thursday and Garbage Pickup is Friday.

Please note that The Town of Gananoque does not have a landfill site. Unwanted items will be accepted from residents of Gananoque at the following:

Garbage Bag Tags

Each garbage bag to be collected must have a bag tag on it. Tags cost $2.50 each and can be purchased at any of the following locations:

  • Town Hall – 30 King Street E. (only debit or cheque accepted)
  • Metro – 333 King Street E.
  • Home Hardware – 875 Stone Street N.
  • Shoppers Convenience – 400 King Street W.

Electronic Waste Recycling Program

The Town of Gananoque initiated their Electronic Waste Recycling Program in January 2011. Reports indicate that more than 50 million tonnes of e-waste globally is discarded each year with only 17% of it being recycled. Residents are encouraged to drop off their accepted e-waste items at no cost (see list here for accepted material) at the Public Works yard by accessing the site at the end of James A. Brennan Road during the following days from 8:00am – 12:00pm (except for Holidays):

  • Wednesday January 5th and Saturday January 29th
  • Wednesday February 2nd and Saturday February 26th
  • Wednesday March 2nd and Saturday March 26th
  • Wednesday April 6th and Saturday April 30th

Town Steel Bin

Residents are encouraged to recycle their metals that are accepted ( see list here, Town Steel Bin) through this waste stream at no cost at the Public Works yard by accessing the site at the end of James A. Brennan Road from 8:00am – 12:00pm (except for Holidays):

  • Wednesday January 5th and Saturday January 29th
  • Wednesday February 2nd and Saturday February 26th
  • Wednesday March 2nd and Saturday March 26th
  • Wednesday April 6th and Saturday April 30th

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

The Town of Gananoque has partnered with the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville to provide Residential Hazardous Waste Days for our residents. Please stay tuned to this page as our plans for 2022 are currently being established.
