Can I park my vehicle on the street year-round?
Answer:
No. Overnight Street parking is prohibited during the winter season, November 15th to April 1st 1:00am-7:00m. It is an offence to park or strand a vehicle in such a manner as to interfere with the movement of traffic or the clearing of snow from a highway, per Section 170 of the Highway Traffic Act. Vehicles can be towed at the owner’s expense.

Can I plow or push my driveway snow out onto the street or across the street?
Answer:
No. It is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act, Section 181, to deposit snow on a roadway, without permission in writing to do so from the road authority (Town of Gananoque). This includes pushing snow across the roadway.

Is it acceptable for me to blow or rake leaves into the street for the streetsweeper?
Answer:
No. Do not blow or rake leaves into the streets. This clogs storm drains and could cause flooding. The streetsweeper is intended for natural leaf debris that falls into the street.

Is it acceptable to pour my food grease down the drain?
Answer:
No. Do not pour grease down your drain. When grease cools, it can stick to the sewer pipes and over time blocks the sewers completely. This can lead to raw wastewater backing up into basements.
Help prevent sewage back-ups in your home, reduce repairs on wastewater equipment and assist in keeping the environment clean by ensuring fats, oils and grease are not poured into the sewer system.

Answer:
Yes. A property owner may submit a tree planting request for the Boulevard Tree Planting Program no later than August 31st each year. A request must include property owner name, address, location and species preference. Submissions are accepted at:

The Tree Boulevard Program is an annual program in which trees are planted each fall. The Town’s goal is to continue to establish a healthy tree canopy, revitalize the tree population and continue to help the environment in and around Gananoque. Trees are planted in the municipal land between roadways and private property, known as the boulevard.
The following criteria will be used to assess potential planting sites: Is there enough space? Is there overhead or underground infrastructure? Does the soil quality appear to be acceptable? Are there any conflicting uses on the planting site? Has the request been made by the homeowner? Is there an obvious conflict with traffic safety or Town maintenance i.e. sightlines or snow removal operations?

Trees are planted on municipal land - between roadways and private property, known as the boulevard.

Is the Public Works Lower Yard still open for disposal of brush and leaves, scrap metal and electronics?
Answer:
No. The Public Works Yard at 665 Charles Street North closed permanently to the public in August, following an order of compliance from the Ministry of the Environment. The Site is not authorized to continue accepting public waste and compost materials. Continuing to accept waste materials would put the Town out of compliance. Contact the Compliance Coordinator at Ext 1612 for information about the closure.

During winter snow plowing operations please give the plow operators room to safely do their job. Please slow down and drive to the road conditions. Be safe.
