King Street East Road Update

Public Notices

The Town of Gananoque would like to provide residents with additional information regarding the road treatment recently applied to King Street East between Charles Street and Carmichael Drive.
The asphalt emulsion applied to the roadway is the same material used in conventional asphalt. The primary difference is that it is diluted with approximately 30% water, allowing it to be sprayed and evenly applied to the road surface. No additional chemicals have been added, and the product is consistent with standard asphalt materials used in road construction and maintenance.

The sand/gravel material that was placed on King Street East is called “manufactured washed limestone screening”. This is a safe product. It is apart of the treatment process, in which a layer of manufactured washed limestone screenings is applied over the asphalt emulsion. This is a safe aggregate material that helps protect the treatment while it cures and bonds to the roadway surface.

The aggregate was intentionally left in place over the weekend to allow sufficient time for the treatment to properly cure. Removing the material too soon could result in the street sweeper removing some of the uncured product, which may affect the quality and longevity of the treatment. Once curing is complete, excess aggregate is removed through sweeping operations.

Street sweeping is currently underway on King Street East, and line painting will be completed once sweeping operations are finished.

The Town appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and businesses while this work is being completed. We thank everyone for their understanding as we continue to maintain and improve our road network.
On behalf of the Town of Gananoque, we would like to thank you for your patience in this matter.
