The Town of Gananoque declares a Significant Weather Event Effective Sunday Dec 28, at 7:00pm.

The Town of Gananoque has declared a Significant Weather Event in response to winter weather conditions that will impact travel throughout the Town of Gananoque. This declaration is made pursuant to Ontario Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

The intent of this notification is to advise that, due to current or forecasted weather conditions, residents should exercise an abundance of caution when travelling on municipally maintained roads and sidewalks. Caution should be taken around utility lines, trees and fallen branches.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather conditions and reports issued by Environment Canada and follow updates provided by the Town of Gananoque posted on the Town’s website and social media.  The Town will issue a statement when the Significant Weather Event has ended.

The following condition / warning has been issued by Environment Canada:

Hazards:
Freezing rain transitioning to heavy rainfall followed by temperatures dropping below that, accompanied by high winds, could create flash freeze conditions. The combination of these events has the potential to create multiple hazards simultaneously on roadways, sidewalks and outdoor public spaces, such as parks and trails.

When: Starting Sunday December 28 to Monday December 29.

Impacts:

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
