Town Council Adopts 2020 Municipal Operating & Capital Budget with 2.6% Levy Increase

On January 14th, 2020, the Council of the Town of Gananoque passed By-law No. 2020-001, approving the 2020 Municipal Operating and Capital Budgets with a 2.1% levy increase due to budget increases and a 0.5% levy increase due to real growth.  The 2020 tax levy will be $8,120,555.


Highlights of the Budget include:
The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF), which is the annual transfer payment from the Province to the Town, was further reduced by $43,800 to $1,419,500.  Since 2012, the annual transfer has been but by $690,300 or 8.5% of the 2020 tax levy.


Gas Tax funding for capital projects identified in the Town’s Asset Management Plan, is being held at the 2019 allotment of $313,009.  An additional $587,311 from the tax levy will be collected for Capital Projects.


The Casino revenues were under budget in 2019 and are budgeted at $1,5000,000 for 2020.
Municipal departments and boards were asked to target a 1.5% levy increase.  The Police Services Board levy increase is 2.4%.
