Monday February 24 is National Cupcake Day. Ordinary people across Canada will be baking and sharing them with friends and colleagues for donations to support their local humane societies and the thousands of homeless and abandoned pets they care for.
National Cupcake Day, a coast-to-coast fundraising day in aid of abandoned animals across Canada. It’s a very sweet, delicious day where anyone who cares about animals can bake and share cupcakes with friends, neighbours or colleagues, and receive donations to help support their local humane society.
People can help in as simple a way as having a few friends over for home-made cupcakes & coffee and collecting donations. This can happen any time from now until February 24. Funds raised are handed over to the Gananoque & District Humane Society’s CupcakeTeam Skittleputt. We forward all donations to the Ontario SPCA who spearheads the drive in Ontario, they tally everything raised in our province, and we then receive back for our own shelter what we raised minus a small amount to cover their marketing and advertising costs. Last year across Canada ordinary people baking cupcakes raised $400,000 for abandoned, neglected and homeless animals in the first year of the campaign. Pretty amazing!
Another way to participate is to register for free as a Cupcake Host to create your own Online Bakery where you can also email your friends and supporters who know you care about animals and collect donations online as well as in person. To find out about registering please visit www.nationalcupcakeday.ca. The GDHS is listed under the groups in Ontario – just please make sure you choose us as your intended recipient!
