Update on Annual Low Cost Rabies Clinics

Public Notices

The Health Unit has partnered with our local veterinarians and municipalities for many years to facilitate low cost rabies vaccination clinics in communities across Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Counties. The past few years have been challenging for our local veterinarians and we have seen a significant decrease in the number of veterinarians that have the capacity to participate in a coordinated approach to these low cost rabies vaccination clinics. We have also seen a decline in the number of pet owners accessing these clinics on the designated dates and times.

Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to not coordinate low cost rabies vaccination clinics across the counties this year. We recognize that there may be veterinary services willing to do their own clinics at times that work for them. The Health Unit is willing and happy to advertise these clinics on our social media and our website. Should you receive inquiries regarding low cost rabies clinics please refer them to our website Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit where we will post a list of any low cost rabies clinics that we become aware of.

Vaccination against rabies is a regulatory requirement for owners of cats, dogs and some other domestic animals, as well as an important tool to reduce the risk of rabies transmission in our communities.

On behalf of the Health Unit I would like to extend our appreciation for the dedication of your municipal staff in assisting and supporting the coordination of these clinics over the years.
