Council Meeting Highlights – April 4, 2023

Town News
  • Authorization was granted to sign an agreement with Zycom Technologies in the amount of $39,627 plus the Town’s portion of HST for the purpose of purchasing Information Technology Software.
  • Mayor Beddows declared April 16-23, 2023 as Pitch-In Canada Week. The Town has scheduled a community-wide PITCH-IN on April 20th, 2023 at 9:00 AM commencing at the Lou Jeffries Community Centre (Arena). 
  • Three Public Meetings were held with respect to Planning Applications (Development Permits):
    • Tennant’s Welding Ltd at 200 James A. Brennan Road was permitted the addition of a tarpaulin structure to the north of the existing main building, with provisions;
    • Popeyes Restaurant – 399 King Street East, for the conversion of the existing structure (previously PartSource/Burger King) approved with conditions;
    • Thousand Islands Playhouse – Springer Theatre, 690 Charles Street South permitted proposed new layout to provide additional seating and access along the waterfront. Conditional upon CRCA approval.
  • Amendments to the Mobile Canteen By-law will be considered and read a third time for final passage on April 18th 2023. 
  • Discussion was held regarding the future of the King Street Pedestrian Bridge. Council will re-visit the matter at the April 18th meeting to continue the discussion.
  • The Sale and Disposition of Land Policy was amended with minor administrative changes. Proposed changes related to the lease of Town land will be addressed in a separate policy at a future date.
  • The 2023 Tax Rates and Ratios were passed by By-law which will remain status quo.
  • Council received for information the Long Term Debt Schedule.
  • Council passed a by-law to authorize an agreement with Gananoque Motors Ltd. for the procurement of two (2) Half-Ton Trucks in the amount of $124,181.80 (Inclusive of Town portion of HST).
  • Council directed staff to bring back a report with options on methods and costing for a review of the Town Strategic Plan by this Council.
  • Council directed staff to investigate overnight parking at Agnes Maule Machar Park and bring back a report following correspondence received from Karen Wand and Kathleen Warburton, dated March 28, 2023.
