Council Meeting Highlights – June 21, 2022

Town News
  • The Town’s Taxi Rates and Fees were amended to increase the rates and to add a $2 charge for animals with the exception of Service Animals, which are exempt.
  • The Sign and Advertising Devices By-law was amended to include parameters for municipal election signage. The outcome will allow for a maximum of forty (40) signs per each municipal candidate, and the size not to exceed 30” x 32”. 
  • Amended Lease Agreement with 1000 Islands Kayaking Inc., was approved by Council to accommodate a change of boat dockage location.
  • The Town’s Human Resources Policy was amended to add “Employees as Paid On-Call Firefighters”, which sets out clear process parameters, allowing emergency response during working hours, as long as the employee’s departure does not compromise safety, operations and Town business.
  • Council passed a By-law allowing extended (overnight) docking for Poker Run participants using the PUC docks.
  • A By-law was passed to delegate authority to the Manager of Community Services to provide temporary exemptions for overnight/extended parking on PUC docks for events.
  •  An Agreement was authorized with Premier Truck Group of Belleville, for the procurement of one (1) single-axle 5-ton truck.
  • A second Agreement was authorized with Gin-Cor Industries for the Procurement of one (1) all-season combination dump body spreader.
  •  Council passed staff's recommendation to approve amendments to Lowertown parking areas within the Lowertown Revitalization Project, with a few adjustments being made to improve navigability and parking concerns.
  • Council directed the CAO to work with the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) to establish a Municipal Programs and Services Agreement which supports only Category 2 programs, which assists the Planning Department with Land Use Plan reviews. This option costs $1,220 and would otherwise need to be contracted out.  
  • Council received the Capital Matters Pending Report.
