Council Meeting Highlights – March 1, 2022

Town News
  • The Mayor acknowledged the disheartening attacks happening in the Ukraine.  
  • The Mayor declared March 26th as Epilepsy Awareness Day in the Town of Gananoque.
  • Council named Kerry Coyle as the 2022 Gananoque Woman of the Year.  
  • Due to the resignation of Debbi Morrison from the Municipal Heritage Advisory Panel, Council appointed Gaylan Fitsell to the Panel for the remaining term of Council.
  • Council Appointed the following members to the Kinsmen Building Advisory Panel: 
    • Council Representatives: Mayor Ted Lojko, Deputy Mayor Dave Anderson, Councillor David Osmond 
    • Community Representatives: Jayne Curtis, Jim Garrah, Joanne Lancaster, Chris McDonald, Sal Snowdon, Linda McCauley, Marion Sprenger, and Sarah Johnson 
  • Three Development Permit Applications were approved:  
    • DP2021-22-775 King Street west – ZanderPlan to develop the property with 4 row housing units comprised of 22 dwelling units.
    • DP2021-23-425 Fourth Street-Horizon Legacy – Marco Polo to develop the property with 4 structures with a total of 12 dwelling units.
    • DP2022-01-872 Stone Street North – Home Hardware to expand the existing outdoor storage yard area.
  • Council received Correspondence noting that the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program will begin on February 22 
  • The 2022 BIA Operating and Capital Budget received its final reading and was passed.
  • Notice was provided regarding the Official Plan Virtual Public Open House on March 8, 2022.
  • Council approved the Issuing Tax Receipts and Appraisal/Valuations and Code of Conduct Policy regarding Gifts/Donations to the Town’s Civic Collection.
  • The Human Resources Policy was amended to include a Disconnecting from Work Policy as per Bill 27.
  • A Residential Tree Planting Program was passed to allow 50% discounted trees for residents to purchase and plant.
  • Council approved an agreement with Neptune to continue their contract for water meter installation/replacements.
  • Council passed a Community Grant for Gananoque Arts Network (GAN) in the amount of $2,500.
  • Council received post project reports for GAN and 1000 Islands History Museum.
  • By-laws were passed for Interim Tax Levy, 2022 Tax Rates and Ratios, and Short-Term Borrowing.
