Council Meeting Highlights – March 15, 2022

Town News
  • Council appointed Randall Smith as an additional member to the BIA Board. 
  • Following Jayne Curtis’ resignation from the Kinsmen Building Advisory Panel, Council appointed Don Matthews.
  • Council issued Councillor Kench a Letter of Reprimand for breaching the Code of Conduct for sending inappropriate emails to All Town Staff regarding Covid-19.
  • Council discussed the correspondence from GSS and decided that the Ice Cancellation Policy may be re-visited at a later date, post pandemic.  
  • Council passed a motion to support the Gananoque Refugee Settlement Fund for Ukrainians.
  • Council voted to raise the Ukrainian flag at Town Hall for a two week period, in support of the people of Ukraine.
  • Rocky Acres Subdivision – Council agreed to declared the First Street Extension Stub as surplus lands to allow for a land swap and the creation of 2 additional building lots.  Lot 11 will be retained for pedestrian access. 
  • Maplecroft Subdivision – The Town received the Forfeit and Release of securities held for finishing works.  Town staff will review the remaining works still to be completed. 
  • Council received the Statement of the Treasurer regarding the 2021 Council Remuneration/Expenses.
  • Council postponed a decision on the Municipal Insurance Policy regarding Heritage Replacement Costs for the Town Hall and 110 Kate street. 
  • Council approved a 12-month contract position within the Fire Department to assist with increasing legislative demands in Fire Certification.
  • Council passed the 1st and 2nd reading of the Draft Backflow Prevention By-law.  A third reading will be held at a later date to allow time for public consultation and feedback.
  • An amendment to the Fees and Rates By-law – Community Recreational Services, was approved.  Staff were asked to report back with respect to the hydro fees in Schedule ‘H’.
