Council Meeting Highlights – October 4, 2022

Town News
  • Kim Marshall, Public Health Nurse from the Leeds and Grenville District Health Unit appeared as a delegation regarding Council’s proposed Consumption of Liquor in Public Places By-law at Joel Stone Park.
  • Mayor Ted Lojko declared Waste Reduction Week for October 17-23 2022. 
  • Council approved a $100 grant to the Gananoque Humane Society for the Puppy Prowl. 
  • A Notice of Motion brought forward at a previous Council meeting to direct staff to prepare a by-law to allow the consumption of liquor in Joel Stone Park, was deferred to allow staff time to amend the by-law to limit the hours of consumption from 11am to 11pm and to reduce the size of the approved liquor zone.
  • Council approved the amendments to the Municipal Heritage Designation By-laws of 11 Church Street and 145 Stone Street South.  Council referred the property owner’s comments of 120 King Street West back to the Heritage Advisory Panel for review and comment.
  • A Tree Canopy and Natural Vegetation Policy was passed. 
  • A By-law was passed to authorize an agreement with the Gananoque Lions Club to take ownership of the beach accessibility ramp in the amount of $1.00.
  • Council officially accepted 2 art donations: “Sails” by Otis Tamasauskas, and “Sydenham Road” by Noel Bullock.
  • An Electronic Monitoring Policy was passed for staff and Council as per Bill 88.
  • Council passed a motion to amend the Lease Agreement with City Cruises by Hornblower to allow the docking of the Captain Mathew Flinders Vessel at the main dock over the winter months. The Town requested that a donation in the amount of $2,500 be contributed to each of the YMCA for the “Berm Out” Project and the Waterfront Concert Series at Joel Stone Park.
  • Two By-laws were passed to authorize agreements with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and KEYS Employment Centre to provide funding for the Workforce Attraction Program.
  • The October 18th Council meeting will take place virtually ONLY.
