Council Highlights - October 18, 2021

Town News
  • KPMG LLP Auditors Carole Fuller and Lori Huber, provided a high-level review of the 2021 Financial Statement for Year Ending December 31, 2021. The accompanying Staff Report referencing the 2021 Management Letter and Financial Statement was also received by Council.
  • Council Passed a By-law to allow the consumption of alcohol in public spaces. The By-law limits the hours of liquor consumption from 11am to 11pm and reduces the liquor consumption zone of Joel Stone Park to only the Amphitheatre area.
  • Council approved My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), The Gananoque Senior’s Association, and the Thousand Islands Youth Boxing Club as potential co-tenants of the Kinsmen Building, subject to several conditions.  The entities have until November 30th 2022 to respond. 
  • The Traffic and Parking By-law was amended to reflect that Market Street (from Water Street to St. Lawrence Street) be paid parking consistent with Lowertown Parking and also to identify that paid parking in Lot “C” will not be required.
  • Council referred $12,000 to the 2023 Budget deliberations for consideration as a Council initiative for the potential purchase of 100 Food Cycler Composting Units.
  • Council directed staff to bring back a by-law to delegate authority to the Clerk to provide Letters of Non-objection to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) thereby delivering faster response times for event organizers.
  • The Water Meter Replacement Program Report was received.
  • Council provided a letter of Non-Objection to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of
  • Ontario (AGCO) for the purpose of serving alcohol from the Hungry Herbivore Food Truck at the South Alley Christmas Market on November 12, 2022.
  • Council passed a by-law authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to sign an agreement with
  • Energy Ottawa Generation LP to install beautification lighting on the Gananoque Dam, with funding from the Business Improvement Area.

Municipal Election 
The 2022 Municipal Election Voting Period began Monday, October 17 at 10:00 AM and runs 24/7 until Monday, October 24, 2022 at 8:00 PM.  

Voting can be done anywhere that you have access to the internet, or; anywhere in North America by telephone. There are no paper ballots for this election. 

For those requiring assistance or a Voting Information Letter and PIN, you are required to attend the Voting Place / Help Centre located at the Town Hall, 30 King Street East, 2nd Floor, Council Chambers, during regular office hours (8:30 AM to 4:30 PM) and an Election Official will be able to assist you.
