Council Meeting Highlights – April 16, 2024

  • Mayor Beddows provided Notice that following Public Meetings will take place during Council’s regularly scheduled meeting of Tuesday, May 7, 2024, for Council to consider the following:
    • Proposed Official Plan Amendment and Class III Development Permit (OPA7-20 & DP2024-07)– 9-15 King Street East – For an urban hydroponic and retail farm.
    • Proposed Class III Development Permit (DP2024-08) – 83 Elizabeth Drive – To permit one short-term accommodation rental with 3 bedrooms.
    • Proposed Class III Development Permit (DP2024-09) -154 King Street East – To Renovate a Second Storey Commercial Building to Accommodate Four (4) Residential Apartments and Relief for Parking Off-site. 
  • Council approved a Motion to amend the start time of the Regular Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday March 7, 2024 from 6:00PM to 5:00PM, in order to accommodate the three (3) Public Meetings taking place. 
  • Rachel Burns, Executive Director, RNJ Youth Services, Roberta Abbott and Jen McMaster appeared as a Delegation before Council to present a Power Point Presentation entitled, “RNJ Youth Services – Programs and Services in Lanark Leeds and Grenville”.
  • Mayor Beddows Declared the Month of April as “Be a Donor Month” in April, and encourages residents to talk to their families and register their consent to be organ and tissue donors.
  • Mayor Beddows declared the week of April 14 to 20, 2024 as National Volunteer Week in the Town of Gananoque and citizens are called upon to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of volunteers within our community.
  • Council adopted the Downtown Gananoque Business Improvement Area (BIA) 2024 Capital and Operating Budget.
  • Staff were directed by Council to proceed with drafting an amendment to the Development Permit By-law to set provisions for secondary suites and accessory buildings. 
  • The Civil Marriage Solemnization Service By-law was amended to remove “Shellee Fournier, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)”, and add “Lynsey Zufelt, Deputy Clerk”, as a Delegated Civil Marriage Officiant.
  • The Capital Matters Pending Report was received.
  • In response to a request from Prostate Cancer Foundation  of Canada, Council directed Staff to light the Town Hall in Blue during September to show its support of prostate cancer awareness. 
  • Council supported the Town of Fort Erie’s resolution regarding the Ontario Heritage Act Amendment. 
  • An additional Staff report was brought forward for Council’s consideration to approve the amount of $45,705 (upset limit), to be drawn from Capital Reserves, to include the option to repair the King Street Pedestrian Bridge in the draft Tender. Council considered the recommendation and subsequently defeated the Motion.
