United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Joint Services Committee (JSC): Mayor John Beddows and Councillor Anne-Marie Koiner as Alternate Council Representative.

  • A Public Meeting was held regarding a Class III Development Permit Application at 125 First Street to increase the number of dwelling units to three (3), subject to certain conditions being met. 
  • Council passed a motion to support the appointment of Steve Allen to the Cataraqui Source Protection Committee (Eastern Area).
  • Council voted in support of Stephen Blais MPP Private Members Bill – Stopping Harassment & Abuse by Local Leaders Act. 
  • Council directed staff to bring back a report regarding the Seniors’ Associations request that the Town issue Charitable Tax Receipts for donations made to the group.
  • Council considered the public comments received regarding the Rotary Club’s proposal for the refurbishment of the Hal McCarnery Park, located at the south end of William Street, and approved the proposal as presented by the Club.
  • Kinsmen Building Advisory Panel results from interested tenants were received and will be considered at the December 20, 2022 Council Meeting. 
  • Council received a report for information advising that the objection to the Municipal Heritage Designation Amendment at 120 King Street West was referred to the Ontario Land Tribunal.  
  • Council directed staff to prepare a report “Cut Smart and Live Better While Reducing Costs – Grass Cutting Green Alternatives” including comments on “No Mow May” Initiative, Lawn-mowing By-law and brush-cutting activities during bird nesting season, in response to Mayor Beddows’ Notice of Motion.
  • Council directed staff to create a Terms of Reference for a proposed Municipal Drug Strategy Committee.  
  • Council received the Gananoque Public Library Quarterly Report.
  • Council authorized an Amendment to the Municipal Contribution Agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for the addition of Sportsbooks at Ontario casinos, which will offer sports and other betting.
  • Council authorized the Mayor and Clerk to sign a Reconnect Ontario Funding Agreement with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport for $11,100 in funding for the 2023 Winterpalooza Event. The Town’s matching portion will be funded from the 2023 Community Grants Budget ($5,000) and from the 2023 Municipal Accommodation Tax ($6,100).
  • Council awarded Everest Signs the contract for the purchase and installation of a New Digital Road Sign at 600 King Street in the amount of $32,500.
  • A motion to review and repeal the Consumption of Liquor in Public Places By-law No. 2022-101 was defeated.
