Council Meeting Highlights – April 2, 2024

Town News
  • Melanie Kirkby appointed as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Town of Gananoque.
  • Mayor Beddows declared the week of April 21-27, 2024, as “Pitch-In Week” in the Town of Gananoque.
  • A Public Meeting for a Class III Development Permit was held for an application for 26 residential units located at 425 Fourth Street (Horizon Legacy). The application was approved with a list of conditions.
  • A Budget Deviation was approved to an upset limit of $175,720.00+HST to be drawn from capital reserves for the Arthur Street Phase I Reconstruction Project.
  • Council directed Staff to make modifications to the Cut Smart and Live Better While Reducing Costs – Grass Cutting Green Alternatives Naturalization Zones, as follows: Do not maintain the Bay Road/Princess Street road easement, and; maintain a 2m wide strip in Grasshopper Park.
  • The Downtown Gananoque Business Improvement Area (BIA) 2024 Operating and Capital Budget By-law received its first and second readings, and the By-law will be considered a third time on April 16, 2024, for adoption.
  • Council received the 2024 Long Term Debt Schedule for information.
  • Council directed staff to investigate Alfred Reid’s request to place a memorial plaque in Joel Stone Heritage Park to recognize the Gananoque Waterfront Advisory Committee, and also referred the matter to the Heritage Advisory Panel for review and comment.
  • Council passed a Motion to Support the Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal - Keeping Energy Costs Down Act.
  • Council reviewed and considered Mayor Beddows’ recommendation to amend the wording of the King Street Pedestrian Bridge Request for Proposal (RFP) to include “a costing for the repair of the bridge”, and; approved an additional spend from the Capital Reserves to an upset limit of $25,000 to fund the additional engineers costs to amend the RFP.
